A change in care needs is one of the most common reasons a resident leaves an independent living community. The resident has not stopped loving the apartment or the neighbors. They have started to need help the community was not built to give.
The choice residents usually face
Without care in the building, a resident who needs daily help has two options: arrange an outside agency, which usually means paying for hours they do not need, or move to assisted living. Many families choose the move because it feels safer, even when the resident would rather stay.
A third option
When a care team is based in the building, a resident can add a morning visit, a shower, or help with medications and stay where they are. If needs grow, services grow with them. The move becomes a decision the resident makes later, or not at all.
What it means for the community
Residents who can get help at home stay longer. Families touring the community hear that support is available if it is ever needed. And your staff have a partner to call when they notice a resident struggling.
If you would like to talk through what this could look like in your community, we would be glad to meet.
